Taylor Plays Captain's Role

UPPERMILL lost star overseas amateur Zeeshan Khan in the very first over, but they still scored 303 for four at home to Stayley in the Tanner Cup.

Captain Matt Taylor stepped up to the mark with a splendid 100 — he was out to the last ball of the innings — while David Wood walloped his way to 76 and Mark Berry made 70.

Despite 82 from professional Rehan Rafiq, Stayley were dismissed for 222.

Uppermill play host to Hollinwood in the last four after John Winterbottom’s side bounced back from yesterday’s crushing defeat at Bamford Fieldhouse.

They again found runs hard to come by against Saddleworth, who seemed on course for the semi-finals after they were set a target of 150. Skipper Peter Skuse took five for 23.

But Hollinwood ensured they avoided back-to-back defeats with an incisive display of bowling, restricting the visitors to 132 for eight at Lime Lane.

Friarmere’s next opponents are Bamford. They were six-wicket winners over Greenfield, who managed 126 for nine.

West Indian overseas amateur Lincoln Roberts top-scored with 51 in the home side’s reply.
