DENTON refuse to surrender ground in their bid to land the Oldham Golf League ‘A’ division title.
Dukinfield hammered Oldham 8-0 but could not close the four-point gap at the top as leaders Denton followed suit with an 8-0 home win over Werneth.
Stamford and Brookdale shared the points in a 4-4 draw with Tony Cavanagh and Chris Houfe (5&3) and Martin Dwyer and Kevin Duffy (1 hole) home-club winners and Gaz Smith and Pete Buckley and John Hughes and Mark Riley for the visitors.
Saddleworth also collected four points on their travels — a 4-4 draw at Ashton — with Nigel Cooper and John Knight (3&2) and Tad Knebel and Gary Simpson (2 holes) away winners.
Two ‘B’ division games fell victim to the weather and Dukinfield took advantage of Brookdale’s inactivity to leapfrog them at the top with a 5-3 away win at Oldham. Home points came via Ron Lewis and Pete Sparks (2&1) and a half for team captain Barry Lewis and Bob Grange.
Week 8 results
A Division: Ashton 4, Saddleworth 4; Stamford 4, Brookdale 4; Denton 8, Werneth 0; Dukinfield 8, Oldham 0.
B Division: Werneth 4, Denton 4; Oldham 3, Dukinfield 5; Saddleworth v Ashton and Brookdale v Stamford postponed (waterlogged).
