Oldham pair book place in finals

OLDHAM’S Jane Antrobus and Bev Scholes won the regional final of the Scott Leggatt Foursomes at Great Lever and Farnworth.

They had a score of 84-13-71 to progress to the final at Ashton and Lea.

Oldham’s Edythe Turner and Karen Phanco are also among the nine pairs from the regional final to go through after a round of 95-19-76.

The qualifier for the Francis Smith, which was EWGA No 8, was won by Janet Kershaw (79-14-65) from Julie Connolly (92-25-67) and Bev Mercer (84-16-68).

Oldham won 5.5-1.5 at Whitefield in the Lancashire Handicap Shield. The local winners were Sheila Antrobus (1up), Joyce Beech (5 & 3), Anne Rotchell (1up), Turner (4 & 3) and Linda Newman (7 & 6). Phanco halved her match.

Lady Vice-Captain’s Prize at WERNETH saw Fiona Dooley triumph with a score of 73-5-68. Second was Jane Clark (84-14-70).

Tied for the first division sweep were Viv Leaver (98-26-72) and Pat Grant (99-27-72).

Kath Lomas (103-31-72) claimed the second division sweep from Judith Wilkinson (110-34-76).

Cynthia Mayoh recorded a double success at BLACKLEY with victories in two competitions.

In the first round of the Centenary Trophy, she emerged the victor with 33 points in the Stableford.

Runner-up was Mary Ruddy (30pts) on the card from Jean Royle.

In the Cancer Relief stableford, Mayoh headed the field with 37 points.

Second was Alison Chesters (36) while third place went to May Fielding (35) on the card from Bernadette Kilcommons.

The Coronation Foursomes at SADDLEWORTH were won by Ann Fitton and Jean Lowe with 34 points in the Stableford. Runners-up were Jean Dervan and Sue Knebel (32).

CROMPTON AND ROYTON lost 6-1 at Swinton Park in the Lancashire Handicap Shield, Val Hall (1 up) recording the lone success.
