Busy day for Bamford

Date published: 25 June 2009

BAMFORD Fieldhouse, the Saddleworth and District Cricket League leaders, will field three teams on Sunday.

They have first and second-team games against Greenfield in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League and play Bootle in the regional final of the ECB National Knockout Cup, formerly known as the Cockspur Cup.

Overseas amateur Lincoln Roberts, professional Stephen Parry and Qasar Riaz, who are ineligible for the Knockout Cup, will be the only recognised first XI players in action against Greenfield.

The other first team players, along with Gary Deboeck and Mark Chadwick from the seconds, will make the trip to Bootle.

Peter Roberts suffered a foot injury in the Tanner Cup defeat of Greenfield last weekend, but will travel to Merseyside.

Bamford made an application to the league to move Sunday’s fixture at Hollin Lane to a later date.

They had asked for the postponement having been drawn at home to Bootle on the same date.

But the league, while sympathetic towards Bamford’s situation, turned down the request.

The committee said they had to be consistent and fair towards all the clubs and had previously this season turned down a similar approach from Austerlands, who had an LCB Cup fixture in the Isle of Man, and also Uppermill’s request to amend the start time for one of their games.

GARETH DENT, who pulled out of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League representative side because of injury, is a doubt for this weekend.

The Droylsden batsmen is still being troubled by a back problem and is struggling to be fit for Saturday’s home match against Bamford Fieldhouse and the game at Friarmere 24 hours later.

UPPERMILL require players for their third team who play in division four of the Site Electrical North Manchester League.
