GLODWICK Cricket Club are becoming accustomed to tied matches in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
The Warren Lane outfit have now had three this season after the first team were bowled out for 139 in reply to Moorside’s exact same score.
It proved a topsy-turvy encounter. Moorside were 110 for one — captain Francis Sutherland made 62 — before they caved in to Imran Aslam (six for 39) and Abid Hussain (four for 43).
At 119 for three in reply, nothing but a Glodwick win seemed possible. However, they slumped to 125 for nine, with Lee Tracey taking three wickets, all caught and bowled.
Glodwick regrouped and they required one to win from 21 overs. Hussain, one of the heroes with the ball, went for the “Hollywood shot” but instead got an edge and wicketkeeper Richard Baines held a diving catch.
For the record, Glodwick’s other two tied matches were in the Twenty20 Cup and division two.
Greenfield and Uppermill fought out an exciting finish at Ladhill Lane.
The match ended in a draw after Uppermill, who were earlier bowled out for 182, had reduced their hosts to 180 for nine when time was called by the umpires.
Greenfield’s Adam Hayes took five for 25 and scored 62, while visiting skipper Matt Taylor also claimed five for 25.
Roelof Hugo hit a classy 106 as Heyside amassed 265 for seven against Saddleworth at Well-i-Hole.
The home side gave it a real go in response — Steven Howard made 71 and Ben Willis weighed in with 57 — but last season’s runners-up proved too strong in the end.
Stuart Moore collected five for 63 as Heyside wrapped up a 22-run win.
Bamford Fieldhouse, the leaders, had little trouble in overcoming basement boys Droylsden at Oakfield.
Chasing a target of 141, they lost one wicket before achieving their goal. Dave Roberts compiled an unbeaten 93.
Asif Iqbal scored 44 for Tanner Cup semi-finalists Hollinwood, who defeated Friarmere by 42 runs at Lime Lane.
The professional’s contribution lifted the hosts to 199 for eight — one run short of maximum batting points — while they were also denied maximum bowling points after their opponents finished on 157 for nine.
Zafar Iqbal, Friarmere’s overseas amateur, had earlier taken four for 76.
