CLL Sunday
OLDHAM recorded their third - and arguably most welcome - victory of the season when they completed a successful run chase against derby rivals Royton at the Pollards yesterday.
With heavy showers threatening the Lake Garage CLL grounds, revised targets were the order of the day in some places.
And Oldham’s track did not escape the rain, the home side being set 139 from 25 overs for victory after Royton had posted an impressive 222 for two.
Stars of the show for Royton was Tony Walsh with an unbeaten 90 and professional Luke Procter with a quickfire 88.
Once the weather relented, the umpires got their calculators out and set Oldham a target of more than five and a half runs per over.
Royton contained the home batsmen for the early part of their innings, but Abid Fasil-Masih’s superb 48 from 21 balls proved the clincher for Oldham, who were also indebted to overseas amateur Nick Maree for his undefeated 41.
CROMPTON were also set a revised target - which they chased down successfully - in their home game against Milnrow.
Max Power hit 63 as the visitors made 210 for nine, Aqib Zulfiqar taking three for 58.
And Crompton - set 147 to win - made 151 for eight to secure four valuable points.
Not many sides win at Monton and Weaste on a Sunday and WERNETH were no different despite an improved show.
New paid man Humayun Farhat made 63 as the Coppice outfit scored 196, home captain Trent Scott taking four for 55 and professional Malinga Bandara three for 61.
But run-machine Paul Green hit an unbeaten 82 and Naveed Din 62 as Monton reached their target with eight wickets and plenty of overs to spare.
