CHRIS RABBICH will be first on the tee as he defends his Oldham and District Championship at Oldham on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Crompton and Royton member, who triumphed at Werneth last year in the 36-hole event, will be an early riser as he starts his opening round at eight o’clock together with Saddleworth’s Martin Orme.

And Rabbich, back home after completing his first year of studies at Oklahoma Christian University, is in a rich vein of form.

He has won several recent competitions at the High Barn club including the 36-hole club championship for a first time.

There is a 40-strong field for the event, though organisers can still accommodate further entries from Brookdale, Crompton & Royton, Oldham, Saddleworth and Werneth.

Any member with a handicap of 12 or lower can enter (£10) by contacting either vice-captain Ian McGloughlin (07709 392230) or professional James Rowlands (0161 626 8346).
