LADY Captain Ann Smith triumphed in Mr Captain’s Prize at OLDHAM after returning nett scores of 65 and 69 for 134 in the 36-hole major.
She finished one shot clear of runner-up Joyce Beech whose 135 comprised nett rounds of 69 and 66.
The top two finished well clear of nearest challengers Jane Antrobus (72 and 70 for 142) and Bev Mercer (71 and 75 for 146).
The first-day prize went to Julia Ward (104-35-69) and second-round honours to Chris Peirson (88-20-68).
Lynn Kershaw’s 169 was the best gross return.
Oldham remain unbeaten in the Lancashire Handicap Shield after resounding victories in their two latest matches.
They won 5-2 at Brookdale through Mary Buckley (4& 2), Joyce Beech (4&3), Anne Rotchell (7 & 6), Edythe Turner (8&7) and Linda Newman (7&6).
That was followed by a 6–1 home win over Whitefield when the Oldham winners were Sheila Antrobus (5&4), Buckley (7&5), Karen Phanco (5& 4), Beech (7&5), Turner (5&3) and Newman (5&4).
Fiona Dooley captured the Centenary Trophy at WERNETH after a round of 73-5-68.
Runner-up was Brenda Martin (94-25-69) while third place went to Lisa Hall (97-27-70).
Tied for the first division sweep were Pat Grant (98–27-71) and Joan Swindells (94-23-71).
Dee Whittingham (104-34-70) won the second division sweep from Christine Moon (113-35-78).
Barbara Olivier was the runaway victor in Lady Vice-Captain’s Prize at BROOKDALE.
She had a round of 88–22–66 which was well clear of Jean Clarke (89–19–70).
Yuk-Lin Yiu hold a commanding five-shot lead after the first round of the Frances Smith at BLACKLEY after returning a score of 93-25-68.
Second was Sheila Salmon (101-28-73) while third place went to Barbara Stansfield (101-27-74).
SADDLEWORTH’S EGWA medal No 6 saw Debra Cockburn win by a massive margin of eight shots with a score of 102-36-66. Second was Hazel Rogerson (99-25-74).
A nine-hole Stableford on the same day was won by Sheila Cooper (18pts) on the card from Jane Wild.
CROMPTON AND ROYTON have had mixed results in the Lancashire Handicap Shield.
They triumphed 3-2 at Bolton Lostock but lost by the same margin at home to Blackley and were beaten 4.5-2.5 at Whitefield.
Noreen Nicholson (1up), Brenda Keaney (1up) and Glynis O’Brien (7&5) were the winners against Bolton Lostock.
Nicholson (4&2) and Joan Peddar (5&4) recorded victories against Blackley, while successes at Whitefield were achieved by Chris Rimmer (1 up), Nicholson (5 &4) while Val Hall halved her match.
