IT WAS a case of elementary dear Watson as Alan Watson won the Veterans Trophy at CROMPTON AND ROYTON.
The major, for players over the age of 55 years, saw Watson emerge the victor after a round of 79-16-63.
Runner-up was Terry O’Connor (79-15-64) while third place went to Trevor Lockwood (77-12-65).
A subsidiary, for players under the age of 55, was won by Glynn Parry (79-17-62) on the card from Steve Oldham (70-8-62). Third was Simon Moores (73-8-65).
BROOKDALE Captain’s Charity Day raised £5,150 for ‘Help For Heroes’, the organisation formed to help wounded servicemen.
The event, a four-man team Stableford, was won by Iain Thomas, Paul Ravenscroft, John Beasty and D Carr who amassed 88 points.
Runners-up with 85 points were Mark Leigh, Geoff Hickling, B Walker and B Morrissey while third were Alf Shillitoe, Roy Baker, Paul and Rick Garside with 84.
Kevin Bacon sliced through the opposition to triumph in the qualifier for the President’s Prize at BLACKLEY.
He had a score of 82-17-65 to finish three shots clear of his nearest challenger.
Runner-up was Dave Cunliffe (80-12-68) on the card from Darren Duerden (76-8-68) and Graham Part (79-11-68).
Mike Scrivner (88-22-66) topped the field in the midweek medal on the card from Cunliffe (78-12-66) who was runner-up in a second successive competition. Third was Gerald Fox (81-14-67).
A two-man Texas scramble at OLDHAM produced a win for Terry Garrett and Steve Rae with a score of 60-4.8-55.2.
Second were Phil Dockerty and Mick Ganley (62-5-57) while grandfather and grandson Norman and Matt Radcliffe finished third with 62-4.5-57.5.
Winners of an aggregate Stableford were Pete Dunbar and Ray Fry (73pts) from Garrett and Roger Stansfield (72), Cliff Nield and Barry Collinwood (70).
SADDLEWORTH’S first round for the Vice-Captain’s Prize was washed out due to Sunday’s flash floods. It will be replayed on Sunday, July 12 while the second round takes place this Sunday.
