A PARTY of six from the Oldham Players’ Association travelled to Glossop to present Fred Hall with a lifetime membership certificate.

The 62-year-old former Oldham prop forward, part of the town’s famous Hall rugby league dynasty, was greeted by the association’s chairman Martin Murphy, Mike Elliott, Lyn Morgan, Lou Laverty, Dave Kenway and secretary Dave Walker, who all made the trip to the Glossop nursing home where he now lives for a get-together which lasted over two hours.

Hall, son of former Oldham Amateur League secretary Fred snr. and father to ex-Wigan hooker Martin, made 191 appearances for Oldham between 1972 and 1980, scoring 13 tries.

He was seriously injured in a road accident in 1985 and has since been confined to a wheelchair, but Hall — still an avid reader of the Chronicle — was described by Walker as being “delighted” by the visit of the travelling group of former Oldham players.

The lifetime membership certificate is the second handed out by the organisation, following that given to Joe Warham.
