IN-FORM Saddleworth blew the league wide open with a fantastic 6-2 away win at Oldham and District Golf League ‘B’ division leaders Dukinfield.

The result was their fourth win in five after a slow start and if they can keep this up they might just get into the title race themselves.

Saddleworth’s wins came from Duncan Midgeley and Frank Pullen, father and son Dave and Jordan Taylor and skipper John Walsh and Dave Newman.

Brookdale also faltered as they went down 6-2 at Denton, who leapfrogged them into second place, with only the powerful Whittaker brothers Gary and Graham earning points with a 4&3 success.

It was the same story in the ‘A’ division with leaders Denton losing 5-3 at Brookdale for whom Brad Keeling and Paul Wood and John Hughes and Pete Buckley won and Gary Lever and Russell Wood halved.

Dukinfield closed the gap to three thanks to a 4-4 draw at Saddleworth, Dean Jagger and Martin Heap (1 hole) and Martin Orme and John Knight (3&2) the point scorers for the home side.

Basement boys Werneth had a fine 7-1 win at home to Stamford with wins for Steve McNamara and Mark Abbott (3 &2), Jonathans Dooley and Wilde (3&2) David Whaley and Adam Rowbotham (2 holes).

Team team captain Duncan Hough and Shaun Rattigan had to settle for a half after being three up with five to play following a sterling comeback from Tony Cavanagh and Chris Houfe.
