CRICKET lovers at The Paddock, Royton, were privileged to witness Norden professional Jean Symes rewriting The Lake Garage CLL record books.
The South African’s 268 not out was the highest individual score since limited overs cricket replaced timed cricket.
The fact the CLL don’t have an official statistician or historian does pose difficulties when it comes to verifying records.
CLL secretary Alan Wright informed the Chronicle that Symes’ knock bettered the previous best of 222 by Oldham’s South African professional Brandon Nash in 2001.
But it was eagle-eyed cricket follower Alan Otterwell who informed the Chronicle that Nash had in fact smashed 245 for The Pollards side against Ashton in 2000.
