A SUPERB stand of 165 laid the foundations for Newtonhurst’s emphatic defeat of Heyside thirds in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance’s Phoenix-sponsored Trophy competition.
Boyle spearheaded the onslaught with an excellent 107 and A Turner finished unbeaten on 75 as the home side amassed a formidable 247 for three.
Heyside thirds, in reply, were dismissed for 98. C Winstanley top-scored with 38 not out, while that man Boyle completed a fine afternoon’s work with figures of five for 15.
Radclyffe moved into the last four after a six-wicket win at home to St Mary’s HC.
The Saints, thanks to 47 apiece from A Cadman and S Jolly, posted a respectable 191 for seven.
Chambers and Daubney did the damage with the ball, claiming four for 30 and two for 44 respectively.
But Radclyffe had little difficulty reaching their target. Daubney was 74 not out at the death, Campbell hit 46 and White made 30. Omerod took two for 29 for Saints.
The tie at Europa Exiles, where Foresters were the visitors, was a close-fought affair.
The hosts were restricted to 80 for nine. H Bailey was the cream of the bowlers with four for 17, while S Patel picked up three for 21.
Foresters were also made to work hard for their runs. They eventually scrapped home for the loss of seven wickets, P Hodgson taking two for 29.
Rashid scored 45 and Wasif weighed in with 29 as Friends made 172 against Greengate.
Buckley bagged four for 45 and Simpson claimed two for 15.
Shenton (38) and Phelan (26) were among the runs for Greengate, but they had little support in a reply of 130 for nine.
Nadeem took two for 29 as Friends booked their place in the semi-finals courtesy of a superior run-rate.
Heyside thirds, St Mary’s HC, Europa Exiles and Greengate will compete in the Supplementary Cup.
