IMRAN ASLAM’S superb haul of seven for 49 spurred Glodwick to a four-wicket win over Austerlands in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

The result lifted Nigel Stock’s side to second place in the table, albeit 63 points adrift of Bamford Fieldhouse, and relegated Saturday’s visitors to Warren Lane to fourth behind Saddleworth.

It was another Aslam exhibition show which did the damage. The Pakistani professional took his wickets tally in the league and Tanner Cup this season to 51 — the first player to reach the half-century milestone — and in doing so restricted Austerlands to 117 all out.

Opposite number Junaid Khan dug deep to try to inspire a fight back, but his figures of five for 68 were in vain.

There was a run fest at Heyside, where the hosts amassed a formidable 283 for six against Uppermill.

Spearheaded by Roelof Hugo’s terrific 117 — the South African paid man had good support from Scott Rowbottom and Nick Campbell who made 56 apiece — Mark Barnes’ boys looked to have laid a platform for victory.

But Pakistani overseas amateur Zeeshan Khan responded with a splendid 111 and captain Matt Taylor was unbeaten on 44 as Uppermill won with six wickets and four overs to spare. Heyside did not help themselves by conceding more than 40 extras.

Saddleworth climbed to third place after an 87-run defeat of Stayley at Millbrook.

The Well-i-Hole outfit accrued maximum points after first piling up 214 and then dismissing the home side for 127.

Warrick Fynn posted his maiden ton for Shaw, but the South African’s knock of 125 — his previous best was 90 not out — was to no avail at home to Bamford.

The pro’s excellent effort lifted his side to a highly-respectable 211 for nine, but 73 from young Lancashire all-rounder Stephen Parry and Qasar Riaz’s 49 not out sealed a five-wicket success for the champions-elect.

Friarmere bounced back from their Tanner Cup semi-final defeat with a seven-wicket win at Moorside.

The hosts, thanks to 79 from professional JP Lee and Lloyd Kingston’s 44, compiled 214. Mohammed Azam took five of the six wickets to fall for 56 runs.

But Sohail Mahmood’s 60 and an unbeaten 51 from paid man Asif Qayyum saw Friarmere to only their third league win of the season.
