OLDHAM Schools under-11s threw away a winning opportunity against Tameside in the Lancashire Schools’ Merit League.
The town team suffered a second successive defeat at the hands of their opponents, going down by 29 runs at Delph Cricket Club.
Oldham were on course to break their duck in the competition after they limited Tameside to 114 for nine from 30 overs. Adam Gray took one for five.
But they were unable to get to grips with the visitors’ bowling attack and crashed to 85 all out. Tom Gallagher, on debut, top-scored with an unbeaten 17.
The result put an end to Oldham’s chances of qualifying for the Bob Hurst Rosebowl.
The under-11s are in action again on Thursday. They meet Salford in a challenge match at Clifton CC.
Oldham’s under-13s entertained Tameside today in the Lancashire Schools’ Merit League.
After losing their opening two matches of the season against Bury and Rochdale, they were hoping to make it third time lucky at Woodhouses CC.
