HEATHER Jeffreys held her nerve in a six-hole play-off to capture Lady Captain’s Prize at WERNETH.

Jeffreys (93-19-74 and 88-19-69) and Dee Whittingham (110-33-77 and 99-33-66) both recorded nett 143 in the 36-hole event.

But in the play-off, for which tradition decrees each player goes out with a marker 30 minutes apart, Jeffreys parred three of the six holes to secure victory.

The first day, first-division prize went to Pat Grant (94-27-67) from Fiona Dooley (72) and Jane Fletcher (75).

Glynis Jones (1-5-33-72) landed the second-division prize from Judith Wilkinson and Stephanie Banks (both 76).

The second day, first-division prize went to Madge Griffiths (93-25-68) from Joan Swindells and Vivien Leaver (both 70).

Judith Wilkinson (106-34-72) claimed the second-division honours from Nadine McNamara and Betty Keating (both 73).

Angela Hunter held on to the Millennium Trophy at BROOKDALE.

Her score of 89-25-64 was seven shots clear of Diane Williams, who posted 86-15-71.

Hunter has had a remarkable season, reducing her handicap from 34 to a new low of 23.

Mr Captain’s Prize at CROMPTON AND ROYTON was won by Lynn Truelove with scores of 82-9-73 and 81-8-73 for 146.

Second was Zoe Styles, whose 147 comprised 81-7-74 and 80-7-73.

First-day prize went to Val Hall (92-19-73), while second-round honours went to Shirley Brown (83-13-70).

The first-round EWGA medal winner was Joan Peddar (1-8-36-72), while the second-round honours went to Julie Barton (105-35-70), on the card from Brown (83-13-70).

An open four-ball better-ball medal at High Barn was won by Julie Barton and Andrea Lowe with nett 64.

Runners-up were Joyce Beech and Linda Newman (67), ahead of Mary Buckley and Sue Mangov-Jones (68) and Kath Clinton and Liz Hinchcliffe (68).

OLDHAM have reached the semi-finals of the Lancashire Handicap Shield at West Derby on August 17.

Oldham qualified after losing only one match – and that was their final fixture when they lost 4-3 at Swinton Park where their winners were Karen Phanco (2up), Joyce Beech (1up) and Edythe Turner (5 and 3).

The Edwards Trophy, an EWGA medal, saw Bev Mercer record a resounding victory.

Her score of 77-16-61 saw her beat Turner (90-21-69), Chris Peirson (89-20-69) and Lynn Kershaw (81-12-69).

BLACKLEY’S Broughton House, an 18-hole Stableford, was won by Sue Oldham (37pts) on the card from Brenda Hall. Third was May Kirkham (35).

Winner of an EWGA medal was Oldham (86-20-66), on the card from Denise Hurst (85-19-66). Ann Tyrer (95-24-71) was third.
