DUKINFIELD pulled off a battling 4-4 away draw at Werneth to keep alive their Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ division title hopes.
Rob Fawcett and Rick Devine won 4 and 3, John Cunningham and Martin Schofield claimed a half against home players Mark Abbott and Steve McNamara, while Barrie Lees holed a monster putt on the last green to grab a half with partner Alan McLeod against home professional James Matterson and club captain David Whaley.
Werneth’s success came via Jonathans Dooley and Wilde, who won 3 and 2.
And the fact that Denton were held to a narrow 5-3 home win by Ashton means that Dukinfield trail by four with a head-to-head home clash coming up with Denton tomorrow.
Saddleworth drew for the third week running, this time at home to Brookdale with Andy Dunster and Chris Bird (2 and 1) and Martin Orme and Dean Jagger (1 hole) claiming the Saddleworth points, and John Hughes and Gary Lever and Gary Smith and Andy Riley replying for Brookdale.
Stamford enjoyed a maximum 8-0 win over Oldham thanks to Ian Grimsditch and Ian Trow (8 and 6), Stuart Fletcher and Andy Earlam (4 and 3), Chris Houfe and Tony Cavanagh (3 and 1) and Keith Coxon and Guy Hall (2 and 1).
In the ‘B’ Division, Brookdale kept up the pressure with an emphatic 8-0 win over Saddleworth thanks to Gary and Graham Whittaker (4 and 3), Keith Loftus and Trevor Horton (3 and 2), Dave Harrison and Arthur Tattersall (4 and 2) and Chris Gleave and John Strachan (5 and 4).
That enabled them to join Dukinfield at the top as they were restricted to a 5-3 home win by lowly Werneth.
Ashton stayed on their heels after winning 6-2 against Denton.
