ASIF IQBAL: Two half-centuries.
LANCASHIRE left-arm spinner Stephen Parry has signed a deal to stay on as Bamford Fieldhouse’s professional.
The 23-year-old, who is highly-rated at Old Trafford, has agreed terms on a new contract until the end of 2010.
Bamford captain Andy Barton said: “We realise Stephen could get called into Lancashire’s first team at any time, and good luck to him if he does, but we’re happy to have him here.
“He’s a lovely lad who’s done alright with both bat and ball in the half-a-dozen games he has played for us this season. He also raises the profile of the club.”
Parry, who attended Audenshaw High School, is yet to feature in a County Championship match, but made his first-class debut in the Friends Provident Trophy earlier in the season. He has also taken 10 wickets to help Lancashire through the group stages of the Twenty20 Cup.
ASIF IQBAL’S unbeaten 77 against Greenfield on Saturday was only the fifth time this season that a Hollinwood player had recorded a half-century.
The Pakistani professional has two ‘50s’ to his name. Mudassar Butt has also achieved the milestone twice and Israh Ur-Haq got the other. No player has gone to reach three figures.
ANDY BROWN, the Glodwick wicketkeeper, was in the thick of the action in last weekend’s win over Austerlands.
He had a hand in six of the 10 wickets to fall. Four of them were stumped, three off the bowling of Imran Aslam.
The race for the Neil Parish Trophy for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper (figures up to and including July 5) stands at —
J Maher (Bamford Fieldhouse) 13 catches, 7 stumpings=20; J McGovern (Hollinwood) 11c, 8st=19; C Gill (Greenfield) 14c, 3st=17; A Griffiths (Uppermill) 11c, 6s=17; O Simms (Stayley) 12c, 5st=17; S Whiston (Shaw) 10c, 5st=15; A Walker (Friarmere) 7c, 6st=13; R Hugo (Heyside) 7c, 5st=12; A Brown (Glodwick) 7c, 2st=9; A Lavin (Saddleworth) 6c, 3st=9; A Ettimadai (Austerlands) 4c=4; N Pearson (Droylsden) 3c=3; T Dent (Droylsden) 3c=3.
