GREENGATE held their nerve to stay at the summit of the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance.

They are level on points with Newtonhurst after a seven-wicket win over title rivals Friends.

Amin hit 71 and Wahid weighed in with 25 in Friends’ total of 195. Clark mopped up the tail with figures of three wickets for no runs after M Ball had earlier claimed two for 41.

Clark (54) and Nixon (47) gave Greengate the ideal platform with a first-wicket stand of 108. And Phelan made an unbeaten 47 to lead his side to maximum points with an over to spare.

Newtonhurst notched a convincing eight-wicket victory over St Mary’s HC.

Butterworth, with five for 22, and Boyle’s three for 22 did the damage as Saints were dismissed for 99.

Newtonhurst were 101 for two in reply, with Boone unbeaten on 49.

A superb opening stand of 184 between Farrow (156) and P Hodgson (39) laid the foundation for Europa Exiles’ mammoth 266 for five (A Hodgson 45 no).

Foresters earned a point by reaching 182 for six.

Kazi (45), I Bailey (42) and H Bailey (38) were the main contributors, while Towle had figures of three for 35.

Radclyffe dominated Heyside thirds, who crashed to 61 all out (Chambers 4-16, Ivers 3-21).

The home side had little difficulty in reaching their target, with Daubney unbeaten on 26 in the eight-wicket triumph.

THE Alliance representative side were skittled out for only 103 in their annual fixture against the Greater Manchester League. Amin made 33 and Farrow, a day after his terrific ton, scored 24.

Greater Manchester didn’t have it all own their own way in reply, losing seven wickets before achieving victory. Amin had figures of two for 21 from eight overs.
