Heywood revels in fantastic day

DANNY HEYWOOD battered the opposition in the Cargate pool Monday evening open match.

Opting for meat and rod/line approach, he put two carp into his net, the biggest weighing in at 10lb, and added a few decent skimmers on corn for a match-winning 23lb 4oz.

Steve Clegg, of Saints, was second-best with a 8lb 9oz net, which included five decent skimmers, followed by Bob Harrison (Team HB), who 7lb 2oz.


BILLY BRIERLEY’S fine run of form continued with yet another win in the Medlock Bridge AC open matches — now back on the Park Lake.

Drawn on peg two, he used maggot for 15lb 2oz of mainly roach and chub to beat Bob Harrison’s 14lb 10oz of skimmers and bream on pole and pellet.

In third place was first-time visitor Graham Mitchell (GTI Gilders).

He had plenty of skimmers and roach, plus a two-pound bream on maggot at 13 and 14 metres for 10lb 12oz.


CHADDERTON Mill AC are staging their popular Dave Slattery Memorial open series on the club water.

MARTIN MURPHY topped Tuesday’s Diggle AC match on Tanners Dam.

Using pellet and meat, he caught a good-sized carp plus a few bits and pieces for a 19lb bag.

That was too good for second-best Ian Cox (13lb 2oz).


CONRAD TAYLOR (Gilders) is on a roll, and he claimed second place in the Meadow View final.

He weighed in 12 big carp in at 74lb net for a pick-up of more than £350.


PETE Humphries took first place in the Saturday open on Brookside Fisheries’ Snake Lake.

He had plenty of carp in the three to four-pound bracket for an 84lb net.

The following day, Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman) claimed second place at the same venue.

Lee’s plan was to fish maggot, but England international Stu Conroy advised him against it.

When he did switch to maggot 30 minutes later, he bagged ide right through until running out of bait with 89lb in the net — just a pound behind the winner.

On Thursday, Lee took two carp to 17lb and plenty of ide for 38lb 12oz. John Pearson netted an all-carp catch of 34lb.


DARREN JONES, of Tight Lines, Shaw won the Oldham Central AC match on Cudmore Fisheries’ Suez Canal.

Drawn on the end peg, Jones took 26lb 15oz of small carp, tench and skimmers.
