Paul Rowbotham captured the club championship at WERNETH for the sixth successive year and for a seventh time overall.

And the 44-year-old, who triumphed by a whopping six-shot margin, admitted to being surprised by his victory.

The one-handicapper said: “I hadn’t been playing well and thought my sons Lee and Adam, who have both been in good form, might take it from me.

“Things suddenly clicked in the last week and I was surprised to win by such a margin.”

Rowbotham fired two rounds of 67 for 134 which was a good distance clear of second-placed Michael Farrimond (73 and 67 for 140).

Paul Egan won the best nett prize for 36 holes with 72-6-66 and 70-6-64 for 130.

Paul and Lee Rowbotham joined forces to win a four-ball aggregate Stableford with a score of 67 points.

In second place with 60 points were Adam Rowbotham and Gareth Hey.

Duncan Hough (70-8-62) claimed the first-division prize in the monthly medal from Nigel Wareing (70-6-64).

Tony McNamara (81-15-66) headed the second division from Bill Riley (87-20-67).

SADDLEWORTH’S youngsters booked their place in the semi-finals of the Manchester Alliance Junior BMW Challenge with a 4-3 win at Dukinfield.
