WERNETH teenagers Matthew and Joe Taylor are in top form as they prepare to represent the CLL colts against the Manchester Association at Whalley Range CC on Sunday week.

Victory for the CLL would earn them a place in the Inter-League Competition final at the end of August.

Both of the Taylor cousins, successful products of the youth system at the Coppice, were in the thick of the action despite being on the losing side in the senior Lake Garage CLL fixture at Littleborough on Saturday.

Matthew made the top score of 45 in Werneth’s total of 138, while fellow teenager Joe collected three for 19 in a probing seven-over spell.

Joining them in the CLL team, captained by Heywood’s Tom Hardman, are Scott Butterworth and Adam Smith (Rochdale), Danny Pawson, wk (Heywood), Grant Jones (Middleton), Mohammed Abid (Ashton), Curtis Maguire and Danny Jones (Littleborough), and Elliott Gilford and Matthew Harlow (Walsden).

Several of the above may be in line for a place in the Lancashire under-19 team to take on their Gloucestershire counterparts at Heywood’s Crimble ground next Monday and Tuesday (11am start both days).

RAIN thwarted Werneth in their CLL under-18 Whittaker Cup match at Milnrow.

Second-placed Werneth had reduced Milnrow to 52 for five in reply to 152 for five when play was halted.

Leaders Heywood were emphatic 10-wicket winners against Bury, who were restricted to 95 for seven.

Royton were 50 for two in reply to Rochdale’s 129 all out when their game was abandoned.

Richard Fitton starred with bat and ball for Middleton, who beat Clifton by 36 runs.

Fitton scored 50 out of Middleton’s total of 162 for nine and then claimed five wickets for 14 as Clifton were bowled out for 126.
