Steve tops field on Cargate Pool

STEVE HALL (Gilders) took first place in the Monday evening Cargate Pool sweepstake with a carp taken on worm fished into a corner followed by three big skimmers on thirteen metre pole and pellet to weigh 12lb 12oz.
Dave Pollitt (Hirst tackle) was second with roach taken on maggot fished shallow at nine metres before six big skimmers fell to pellet fished at thirteen metres netting him an 11lb 6oz total.
Mick Jewitt (Tight lines) was third on the night with 10lb 4oz of crucians and skimmers that fell to pellet fished on the long pole.
THE Rochdale Canal is fishing really well at the moment with roach and skimmers showing all over the canal.
In Saturday’s open, on the Rose of Lancashire and Vinegar works lengths, fish fed freely with winner Derek Walker weighing in a brilliant 14lb of roach.
Drawn on the last peg behind the pub, Derek showed he’s top notch on the cut with hemp and caster fished down the track netting him roach from two ounces to twelve ounces.
Next was Paul Melia with 9lb 4oz of skimmers and roach taken on bread punch and red maggot tempting a fish a chuck from his peg next to Middleton Road bridge.
John Edwards battered the small fish with one every put-in falling for his beloved bread punch to finish the match with 7lb 8oz and third place,
CHADDERTON Mill ACs open match fished on the club water saw Lee Humphries (GTI matchman) crush the rest of the field as he tipped 44lb 12oz on the scales consisting of two small carp taken on paste fished down the edge and ide that fell for maggot on the hook.
John Lees (Gilders) chose a close-in approach with paste on the hook to weigh in 28lb.
Maggot fished up in the water at ten metres netted Paul Hill third place with his 24lb 8oz, while four carp gave Fred Prudham 21lb 4oz and fourth on the day.
PETE HUMPHEYS topped the Brookside Fisheries open match fished on Snake lake with paste fished at just four metres tempting a rake of F1 carp that tipped the scales to 84lb.
Second was Steve Carrier with his 61lb made up of F1’s that took hard pellet fished up in the water, beating Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman) into third.
Lee also fished paste close in to take two big mirrors and plenty of F1’s that took his weight to 55lb 14oz. John Jones was fourth with his 53lb of carp.
TANNERS Dam is fishing okay at the moment with skimmers and roach feeding.
Winner of the Diggle AC Tuesday match was Dave Machin with his 14lb 14oz made up of skimmers and small roach that fell to meat and pellet fished on the long pole.
Ian Cox managed a second place with his 14lb catch of crucians, skimmers and small carp that fell for meat and pellet fished on the pole.
Paul Vickers managed a 12lb 4oz catch that included plenty of skimmers falling for the tip and red maggot.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Carp and bream to the tip and maggot.
Rochdale Canal – Fished well in an open match last Saturday with a double-figure catch of roach winning. Plenty of decent backing weights were evident with everyone putting at least a couple of pounds in the net.
Chadderton Mill lodge – Still the outstanding fishery in the area. Ide to maggot while feeding caster and paste fished close in for carp.
Park Lake – Maggot and caster catching plenty of fish on the pole or waggler.
