Saddleworth out to halt Bamford bandwagon

Date published: 31 July 2009

IF you’ve fallen off the horse, the best bet is to get back on as quickly as possible - so they say.

And so it is for Saddleworth tomorrow when they bid to bounce back from a derby defeat at Uppermill in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth Cricket League.

What better place to relaunch their bid for runners-up spot than by taking on the runaway leaders, Bamford Fieldhouse?

Hopes of Saddleworth lifting the title are long gone. Bamford lead the way by a country mile.

But Peter Skuse’s side could at least make life a little more interesting by toppling the Bamford bandwagon.

Hollinwood currently lie in second spot and will be hoping that professional Asif Iqbal can repeat last week’s heroics when he became the first Lime Lane player this season to score a century, his unbeaten 115 helping them to victory at Shaw. Hollinwood take on Heyside.

Austerlands are also hoping to get back on track after their defeat by Bamford and will be looking to young Pakistani professional Junaid Khan for inspiration at Friarmere. He has taken 13 wickets in his last two matches.

Tomorrow: Droylsden v Shaw, Friarmere v Austerlands, Greenfield v Moorside, Hollinwood v Heyside, Saddleworth v Bamford, Stayley v Uppermill. (Open date - Glodwick).

DELPH will be hoping to hit form again in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership after slipping to defeat against Honley last weekend.

Tomorrow sees them travel to Elland, while Micklehurst have a home game against Meltham.

WOODHOUSES host Denton West in the Lancashire County League tomorrow (1.30pm).
