Matt books final date for Classic

NIMBLE Nook’s Matt Gillies has reached the finals of the £3,000 Moorside Classic.

Gillies defeated Ray Broadfield 21-17, Vince Senior 21-18 and Allan Thompson 21-11.

The other qualifiers in the latest heats were Richard Dandy, Paul Dudley and Dean Ferris.

TONGE will play Hopwood in the final of the Greater Manchester Premier Cup.

Tonge defeated Springbank at Hopwood Unionist Club, Heywood, on Thursday night, while Hopwood beat Tameside outfit Hadfield.

The date and venue has yet to be fixed.


JIMMY Derby (Nimble Nook/Tonge) bowled superbly to win the £600 top prize in the Tommy Braddock Memorial Tournament at Tottington BC.

Radcliffe-based Derby beat his neighbour Paul Dudley 21-16 in the final.


ROGER Crowther, who plays for Nimble Nook in the Chadderton League, was beaten 21-8 by former Tonge player Graham Hickey (Halifax) in the final of the £1,400 Marsh United Open in Huddersfield.


THE semi-finals and final of the Chadderton League’s Swallow Cup will take place at North Chadderton Social and Bowling Club on Sunday (noon).

The teams involved are Uppermill, Westwood, Royton and Springbank ‘A’.


SADDLEWORTH League delegates will meet at Lees and Hey Conservative Club tonight (8 o’clock) when all trophies must be returned.
