KAREN Heywood will make her competitive debut as a professional on her home course in Crompton and Royton’s pro-am.
The 32-year-old has been a regular in the annual event, but only as an amateur competitor.
This time Heywood – who will soon become assistant professional at the High Barn club – heads a team which will also comprise three amateur players.
Twenty-four teams will take part in tomorrow’s competition and among the professionals in action will be Crompton and Royton’s Martin Beaty.
SATURDAY’S Oldham and District Four-Man Team Championship at Saddleworth was abandoned.
Heavy rain caused play to be suspended mid-afternoon and when conditions failed to improve the event was called off.
The tournament will be rescheduled, but a new date has yet to be confirmed.
THE Central Lancashire Cricket League Golf Society’s captain’s day at Woodsome Hall was won by president Roy Ashworth.
The former Radcliffe player scored 39 points in the singles Stableford.
Runner-up was Littleborough’s Gary Fisher (37), while third place went to Middleton’s Tommy Astley (35).
BROOKDALE still have free starting times in Festival Week which tees off on Sunday.
There are vacancies in Sunday’s men’s open four-ball (£24 per pair), Tuesday’s open four-ball (£24 per pair), Friday’s open four-man team event (£120) and the mixed open four-ball on Sunday week (£22 per couple).
Entries should go to the Brookdale administration office on (0161) 681 2655.
