BLACK Saturday in the Lake Garage CLL saw all four of our local clubs suffer defeat.

Crompton came the closest to victory at Rochdale, where the hosts were bowled out for 143.

That total should have been within Crompton’s reach, but Rochdale professional Kash Weeraratne grabbed five for 55 as the visitors were skittled for 127.

Royton suffered a 42-runs defeat at home to Unsworth despite a century from paid man Luke Procter.

Unsworth’s deputy pro, Derbyshire’s Tom Lumley, hit a superb 123 and Darren Love 61 as the visitors rattled up 256 for nine. John Punchard took four for 85.

In reply, Royton were dismissed for 214 despite Procter’s excellent knock of 101. Lumley was the main architect of their downfall with four for 79.

Werneth must have fancied their chances after making 208 for nine against Clifton at the Coppice. Andy Walker hit 43, Joe Taylor an unbeaten 40, Matthew Taylor 36 and Franco Lenhardt 33, while Andy Hough took four for 86 and Clifton pro Adil Nisar collected three for 61.

Nisar was in even better form with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 109 as Clifton bludgeoned their way to 212 for two. Chris Lord made a valuable 54.

Oldham suffered a disappointing home defeat against Ashton, who batted first and made 173 for nine.

Dilesh Mistry hit 52 and Mohammed Abid 35, while Neil Inkpen took five for 85.

Oldham were disappointing with the bat, being bowled out for 121 despite Mohammed Zafar’s 46. Off spinner Imran Yousaf was the chief destroyer with six for 33.

Elsewhere, Norden and Monton and Weaste boosted their title hopes with maximum-points victories, but Heywood suffered a wounding home defeat at the hands of Littleborough.
