Jordan turns it round to clinch Lancs title

CROMPTON and Royton’s Jordan Flint is the new Lancashire under-16s boys champion.

The three-handicapper from Shaw triumphed in the event at Ashton and Lea, Preston, after shooting a level-par gross 71.

It gave the pupil from Crompton House a two-shot margin of victory over Formby’s Paul Kinnear.

The win was unexpected as Jordan was three-over-par and well off the pace after eight holes.

But a sensational turn, in which Jordan shot eagle-birdie-par-birdie, suddenly transformed his round and he went one-under-par before finally walking off the 18th level.

Jordan, who plays for Lancashire boys against Cheshire at Hough Wood, St Helens, tomorrow, took up golf at the age of seven.

He is following in the footsteps of his father Mike and grandfather Syd, who are both members at Crompton and Royton.

Jordan attributes much of his success to High Barn club professional Dave Melling, who was his first coach.

He has been involved with Lancashire since the age of 12 when he won a place in the county training squad.

Jordan, whose ambition is to become a professional, reached the regional final of the Faldo Series in Scotland last summer, missing out on a trip to Brazil by only two shots.
