Nett 54 destroys rivals at Werneth
KEVIN Hicken produced the round of his life to win the second division of the monthly medal at WERNETH.
He had an amazing score of 76-22-54, an incredible 14 under-par, for a nine-shot margin of victory over Jack Fallows (78-15-63), who was second, on the card, from Geoff Hibbert.
Winner of the first division was Nigel Wareing (67-5-62), on the card from Louis Cordwell (74-12-62).
Father-and-son Paul and Lee Rowbotham and Michael Farrimond were victors in a three-man team Stableford with a score of 86 points.
They finished four clear of Gareth Hey, Lee Appleby and Hicken, who took top spot in the yellow-ball competition held within the main event.
Andrew Riley was the runaway winner of the Captain’s Final at BROOKDALE after shooting rounds of 78-13-65 and 77-13-64 for 129.
Gary Lever (70-5-65 and 74-5-69 for 134) was runner-up, while third place went to Paul Holt (80-13-67 and 83-13-70 for 137). Fourth was Matthew Hampson (72-5-67 and 75-5-70 for 137).
The best nett score for the first round was 73-6-67 from Trevor Mayo, while the honours in the second went to Graham Brown (75-12-63).
Mark Riley had the best gross score for 36 holes with 149.
Terry Garrett lifted the Clegg Cup at OLDHAM with a two-round nett total of 127 after rounds of 60 and 67.
Barry Lewis (65 and 63 for 128) was runner-up, while third place went to Dave Bruce (65 and 64 for 129).
Garrett (67-7-60) headed round one from Mike Allen (73-10-63) and Bruce (81-17-64).
Steve Butler (74-11-63) took the honours in round two, from Barry Lewis (71-8-63) and Bruce (82-17-65).
Julian Robinson won a three-way card play-off for top spot in the fourth round of the Captain's Prize at BLACKLEY.
He had a return of 67-0-67 to edge out second-placed Martin Shore (77-10-67) and Pat Bonner (86-19-67).
Blackley defeated Flixton 5-2 in a junior fixture, the wins being secured by Gareth Saxon (3 & 2), Danny Speight (3 & 2), Matt Williams (5 & 4), Michael Armstrong (1up) and Callum Cornielle (7 & 6).
Mark Booth (78-11-67) pipped Scott O’Leary (72-5-67), on the card, for top spot in a medal competition at CROMPTON and ROYTON.
John Brock (82-17-65) was the clear winner in division two from second-placed Ivan Butterworth (92-24-68).
Winners of a four-ball Stableford were Brian Copeland and Mick Healey (43 points), while second place went to Dave Briddon and Steve Moores (42), on the card from Brian Smithies and Alan Pickles.
STEVE Pullen was crowned SADDLEWORTH club champion after recording a two-round gross total of 143.
Runner-up Ben Simpson returned 145, pipping Richard Hughes (146).
In the subsidiary event, Simon Tait came out on top with a round of 77-15-62.
Steve Harrington (72-5-67) took second spot, on the card from Phil Legg (76-9-67).
STAMFORD’S matchplay major for the Wood Bowl produced a close finish with three players finishing on six up.
Victory, on the card, went to Alan Gerrish ahead of I Hall and C Varey.
