Darren lands trophy spoils

CAIRO AC’s Knock Out trophy match fished on Alexandra Park lake was won by Darren Webb (Medlock Bridge AC) with his pole and pellet approach netting him bream, skimmers, roach and chub together weighing 13lb 4oz.
Mick McDonald (Gilders) fished pole and maggot for his 12lb 10oz catch of roach and chub. Third-placed Malc Taylor (Gilders) fished bronze maggot for a real mixed net including chub, roach, tench and skimmers for 8lb 9oz.
Mick Jewitt (Tight lines) was fourth with a pole and pellet-tempted 7lb 6oz of roach and perch.
MONDAY’S Cargate open on Alexandra Park lake saw organiser Steve Clegg (Saints) take first place with his maggot on the drop approach netting him 12lb of roach to over a pound.
Dave Pollitt was second with eight skimmers and the odd roach falling to pellet and maggot fished at eleven metres to weigh in 9lb 12oz. Darren Webb (Medlock Bridge) was in the money again with his 8lb 2oz catch made up of the odd roach, two tench and skimmers.
THURSDAY’S Chadderton Mill AC match fished on the club water has fished really well over the summer period and just seems to get better, with the top two netting over 60lb apiece.
John Pearson was the winner with 63lb 6oz of carp up to 6lb with paste fished down the edge from his peg six.
Gerry Lees (Gilders) was second with some decent-sized carp, the biggest 10lb and all falling to treble caster fished down the edge.
Third best Fred Prudham (Gilders) used double red maggot fished shallow at seven metres for 43lb 10oz of carp to 4lb.
Organiser Lee Humphries (GTI matchman) was fourth with a level 43lb of ide taken on caster fished up in the water.
THE second round of the Dave Slattery memorial match fished on Chadderton Mill lodge gave Paul Hill (Gilders 59lb 2oz of carp, the biggest 10lb and all taken on ten metre pole and maggot.
Ivan Ditchfield (Tight lines) was second with a dozen carp that fell to waggler and maggot fished just two foot deep taking the scales down to 49lb 15oz.
Graham Davis was third with 46lb 14oz of carp to 5lb taken on the pole and worm fished shallow at fourteen metres. Graham Mitchell (GTI Gilders) was fourth and last qualifier, weighing in 41lb 12oz of silver fish and carp .
THE Rochdale Canal is fishing as well as it ever has and organiser John Ross made the most of it with his second open match on the “cut” in three weeks. Fishing the Railway and Linnet length, former England international Alan McAtee had an outstanding 24lb 13oz of bream and skimmers.
Derek Walker was second with his caster bait netting him bream to 3lb and skimmers for 19lb 3oz. Shaun Paddon was third with his 17lb 4oz net including skimmers, roach and the odd bream.
THE SADAS members-only match fished on Eagle Mill Dam was won by Brian Murphy with 22lb 4oz of bream that fell to pole-fished halibut pellet.
Ian Hurst was second with 11lb 2oz of bream and skimmers, while Fenton Tennant was third with 10lb 12oz of skimmers.
DIGGLE AC’S match on Tanners Dam was won by Dave Machin with 13lb 14oz of carp and skimmers falling to the pole, pellet and meat.
Nick Henshaw fell just a fish short with 10lb 4oz and Martin Taylor (TRI-Cast Highield) was third with 10lb 3oz of skimmers.
Venue Guide
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Plenty of fish being caught on most baits.
Rochdale Canal – Fishing well for bream. Caster and bread punch netting most fish.
Chadderton Mill lodge – Carp now the feature fish as the ide have had to take a back seat. Maggot and casters still the best baits.
Park lake – Maggot and caster fished on the waggler and pole for plenty of skimmers, tench, roach, perch and chub.
