CROMPTON possess bragging rights over Oldham - at least until the next time they meet - after defeating their neighbours by seven wickets in the Lake Garage CLL at Glebe Street yesterday.

Simon Wright took five for 29 as Oldham were skittled for 123, Mel Whittle top scoring with 30. And professional Mohammed Zaman Khan struck an authoritative 72 as Crompton made 124 for three to claim maximum points.

Werneth’s players were breathing a huge collective sigh of relief last night after ending a miserable spell of defeats with a 64-run victory over Unsworth.

Deputy professional Roelof Hugo struck 85 and overseas amateur Chris Rogerson an unbeaten 41 as Werneth racked up an impressive 241. And Werneth restricted their hosts to 177 for eight despite 59 for home professional Wayne Madsen, 41 from Chris Long and 35 by Anthony Gregorio.

Royton also returned to winning ways with a 17-runs defeat of Clifton at the Paddock. Paid man Luke Procter hit 69 and John Punchard 51 as Royton were bowled out for 204, Alex Rodzoch taking five for 31.

Clifiton were then dismissed for 187 despite Rodzoch’s fine knock of 77.

Rain affected every game on Saturday when Oldham produced the best result of our four local teams with victory over Rochdale.

After making 184 for eight from 45 overs, Adnan Shafiq hitting 43, Oldham restricted Rochdale to 135 for eight as the visitors chased a revised target of 141 off 31 overs. Neil Inkpen maintained his fine form with five for 57.

Werneth scored a respectable 196 for eight off 45 overs against leaders Norden, but the revised target of 154 proved well within Norden’s compass, the visitors losing only three wickets.

Young Joe Taylor confirmed recent promise with an unbeaten 62 for Werneth.

Professional Mohammed Zaman Khan hit 48 and Glenn Rigby 46 as Crompton made 164 for eight declared at Littleborough.

Boro were set a revised target of 145 after a heavy shower and they reached that for the loss of three wickets thanks to Callum Rushton’s unbeaten 44 and 43 from Tom Pye.

Royton fought out the day’s only rain-affected draw. Mark Woodward hit 49 in their 164 all out at Middleton, the home side’s stand-in professional Luke Woodcock taking five wickets for 70.
