Jackie captures captain’s prize

JACKIE LEES captured Lady Captain’s Prize at OLDHAM on the back of a superb opening nett 62.

She followed that with a 70 for a two-round total of 151-19-132 and a one-shot margin of victory over Karen Phanco whose 165-32-133 comprised nett 68 and 65.

Mary Buckley had the best gross return of 166 while the first-day prize went to Joyce Beech (80-17-63) and second-round honours to Julia Wild (102-33-69).

A nine-hole subsidiary Stableford was won by Edith Howarth with 33 points.

Kay Orme was the runaway winner of Mr President’s Prize at SADDLEWORTH triumphing by a margin of 11 shots.

She had a two-round return of 145-10-135 while second place went to Sheila Cooper (206-60-146).

Liz Hinchcliffe (86-15-71) won the opening round and Kath Whitehead (97-27-70) the second.

Brenda Keaney lifted the Marks Cup at CROMPTON AND ROYTON with rounds of nett 72 and 71 for 143, one shot clear of Elaine Burston whose 144 comprised 75 and 69.

Keaney (99-27-72) won the first-day prize while top spot in round two went to Burston (92-23-69).

Winners of Invitation Day were Christine Rimmer and Ebe Camp (74) from Keaney and E Araj (75.2) while third place went to Noreen Nicholson and Gill Keogh (76.2).

Invitation Day at WERNETH produced a win for Marilyn Griffin and Oldham’s Joyce Beech who scored 41 points in the Stableford.

Runner-up was Sylvia Haq and Oldham’s Mary Buckley (40pts) while third were Fiona Dooley and Ann Fallows (North Manchester) with 39, on the card from Sheila Whittingham and Elaine Bonn.

BLACKLEY’S fourth qualifier for Lady Captain’s Prize was won by Helen Sloan (83-12-71), on the card from Jeanette Ryder (84-13-71). Third was Bernadette Kilcommons (87–14–73).
