Springhead’s super start

SPRINGHEAD have made a superb start to the new Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League season.

The Ashfield Crescent outfit overcame East Manchester 3-0 on the opening day of the campaign, and followed up with a tremendous 1-0 win over reigning champions Manchester Gregorians in midweek.

Paul Ogden, Paul Stevenson and Ryan Shaugnessy got the goals for ’Head against East Manchester.

Shaugnessy’s second-half effort sunk Gregorians, who dominated the first period in this battle of last season’s top-two teams.

Paul Bennett’s Hollinwood got off to a flyer with a 3-0 defeat of Old Alts. Anthony Robinson, Daniel Murray and James Kelly were on target.

Two goals up through James Hampson and Lee O’Brien, Avro had to settle for a point in the end after Atherton Town fought back to draw 2-2.

But Rob Fuller’s side made no mistake at Chapel Town on Tuesday night.

Hampson again, Patrick Garmory and Daniel Grimshaw were the Avro marksmen in the 3-1 win.

Royton Town, despite levelling courtesy of Carl Caffrey’s excellent long-range effort, were beaten 3-1 at Elton Vale on Saturday.

But they were vastly improved at Hindsford in midweek as they picked up a point in a 2-2 draw thanks to Anthony Duffy and a Michael Moss penalty.
