Shaw snap up Senior as pro

SHAW have signed Ryan Senior as their professional for 2010.

The 23-year-old right-arm off-break bowler and left-handed batsman is currently plying his trade at Woodbank in the Lancashire County League.

Senior, from Greenmount, replaces South African Warrick Fynn, who was always expected to leave Holebottom Clough after one season.

Shaw president Mark Stafford said: “An English pro makes a lot of sense.

“We avoid paying air fares and accommodation, while it is becoming more of a struggle to meet the criteria and requirements to sign an overseas player.”

If recent form is a guide, Senior looks a good acquisition for Shaw. He took eight for 31 and nine for 63 against Flowery Field and Stand respectively in consecutive weeks in July.

Senior played one game for Essex seconds against their Yorkshire counterparts in 2006, taking six for 87.

He also spent a winter playing for the Traralgon Imperials in Victoria, Australia.

GREENFIELD are staging a “youngsters” for “oldsters” 40 overs a side challenge match on August 30 (start 2pm).

An under-18s team, captained by Adam Hayes, will go head to head with an over-18s team, with Jonathon Ainley in charge.
