Nield nets top Springs spot

OLDHAM Central AC’s match on Hampton Springs Oasis lake was a cracking affair with George Nield (Gilders) netting himself 29lb of mainly barbel on double caster fished under his feet.
Darren Jones (Tight lines) was second with his caster and corn fished close in for 27lb 11oz of barbel, carp and tench.
Third-placed Paul Fisher weighed in a mixed bag of 22lb 2oz, while organiser Paul Nield (Gilders was fourth with 21lb of crucians and silver fish.
o FAILSWORTH Sea Angling Club had a cracking weekend’s fishing down at Poole, Dorset, where they caught cod to double figures, black bream and some big conger eels.
Paul Nield put himself in the conger club with a 40lb specimen that came off the Silver Spray boat.
o SATURDAY’S JR open match on the Wellihole Bridge length of the Huddersfield narrow canal showed that Oldham bait dealer Dave Brierley has not lost his touch with a winning 9lb 8oz of roach and perch that fell to caster.
Paul Booth was second with his caster fished down the middle and across netting him 7lb 8oz of roach and perch and beating John Lee into third with 7lb 6oz.
o MONDAY night’s open match on the Park Lake saw organiser Steve Clegg (Saints) put in a sterling performance, winning the match with 13lb 10oz of mostly chub and roach taken on 13-metre pole and maggot.
Billy Brierley (Team HB) continued his good form with a second-placed 9lb. Danny Haywood was third with 6lb 14oz of roach, chub and perch.
o THE Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake saw Billy Brierley (Team HB) step up a gear to win with 16lb 2oz of roach, chub and perch, beating Pete Cuniffe (Gilders) into second with 13lb 6oz of skimmers, chub, roach and perch.
Steve Hodges was third with 6lb 6oz of perch together with the odd small chub that all fell to maggot.
o THURSDAY evening’s Chadderton Mill AC match was won by Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman with his 53lb 8oz weight made up of 40lb of ide, taken on maggot and caster, and some carp taken on paste fished close in.
Fred Prudham was second with 36lb 2oz of carp taken on maggot fished down the edge - his biggest fish weighing in at 8lb.
Paul Hill was third with 35lb of ide and carp that fell to maggot up in the water and paste fished down the edge.
This was the last match in the series that went right to the wire.
Lee Humphries and Paul Hill went into the match level on points with Lee’s win tipping the championship his way. Second was Paul, third Darren Webb, fourth John Pearson and fifth Fred Prudham.
o THE Dave Slattery memorial series match, fished on Chadderton Mill lodge, was won by Conrad Taylor (Gilders) with his maggot and caster fished shallow approach netting him 59lb 8oz of carp and ide.
Pete Humphries (Rochdale angling supplies) took second with 37lb 10oz of carp.
Chris Wood was third with 37lb 4oz of carp to 12lb, followed by Lee Humphries (GTI matchman) with 36lb 14oz and Paul Hill 30lb.
