Date published: 24 August 2009

SIX days after suffering Tanner Cup agony, Uppermill exacted their revenge and also wrecked the last unbeaten record in the Armstrong Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Matt Taylor’s men beat their cup-finals conquerors Bamford Fieldhouse by eight wickets at Leefields, thanks to a brilliant 116 not out by Zeeshan Khan and Nathan Boote‚s belligerent 53.

Leaders Bamford, with professional Stephen Parry making 53 and Simon Marshall compiling 49, rattled up a more than respectable 231. Taylor took four for 49.

But Pakistani overseas amateur Khan who, in reaching his century became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs this season, and Boote made sure this was Uppermill’s day.

Paceman Junaid Khan produced an outstanding spell of bowling for second-placed Austerlands at Thorpe Lane.

The teenage professional, from Pakistan, ripped through the Greenfield batting line-up, claiming a season’s best of eight for 12 in a 79-run success.

Austerlands, who were defending 151 courtesy of Andy Young‚s third consecutive half-century, notched their ninth victory of 2009. However, they still trail Bamford by 73 points.

Ben Willis scored 75 for Saddleworth, who remain third after a four-wicket win over Droylsden at Oakfield.

The home side were dismissed for 125, Steven Holmes taking five for 41.

South African paid man Roelof Hugo recorded 136 - his highest score of the season - in Heyside’s 124-run defeat of Moorside at Little Hey Street.

Fellow countryman and overseas amateur Chris van Schalkwyk weighed in with 84 out of a huge total of 290 for seven. JP Lee, Moorside’s pro, scored 82 in reply.

Friarmere are up to eighth after stretching their unbeaten run to five games.

Two of those matches were rained off, but they can now add Glodwick to their recent list of wins over Heyside and Saddleworth.

Requiring just 83, the West View outfit reached their target with seven wickets to spare.

An unbroken third-wicket stand between Pakistani professional Rehan Rafiq (79) and Mark Jones (58) guided Stayley to an emphatic defeat of Hollinwood, who were restricted to 166 for nine. Asif Iqbal made 58 for the hosts.
