Derby win for Delph

DELPH scored a comfortable win over Micklehhurst in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership derby meeting.

Graeme Simpson’s 79 was the cornerstone of Delph’s total of 208 all out (Mark Bryowski five for 76).

In reply, Micklehurst, with Andrew Gleave making 70, were bowled out for 139 (Bilal Khiljee 6-61, Arron Lilley 3–15).

Delph’s second team beat Almondbury by 31 runs.

Tom Wood (45) and Jon Belcham (40) helped Delph reach 171 for eight before Almondbury were dismissed for 140 (Steven Broadbent 5-30, Mark Lilley 4-30).

ONE of the two identical twin brothers who were banned for life from representing the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition is now playing in the area.

Batsman Zahid Mohammed, from Abbeyhills Road, Glodwick, has signed for Delph and was in the team for Saturday’s match against Micklehurst. The opener scored one.

Zahid and bowler Nazim, who both played for New Brighton, were caught out after an incident in a President’s Trophy game.

Nazim, a bowler, was picked for the L&DCC side to play against the Nottinghamshire Premier League at Welbeck Colliery.

However, Zahid, who was the better batsman but had been overlooked by the selectors, took his brother’s place when it was their side’s turn to bat. He was out for a duck.

The pair may have got away with it, but one eagle-eyed spectator noticed that one bats right-handed and the other left.

The brothers were subsequently banned for life from representing the L&DCC, who also suspended them until the end of the 2009 season.

However, both players were free to sign for other clubs outside of the L&DCC.
