Mighty Mark on hot streak

TEENAGER Mark Anderson-Wild was a double winner in the space of 24 hours at SADDLEWORTH.

And it completed a treble as the previous week the 17-year-old lifted the Jubilee Trophy.

Anderson-Wild teamed up with Ben Simpson to triumph in the Venda Valet Am-Am.

The next day he was a victor again in the first round of the President’s Prize.

Anderson-Wild and Simpson amassed 45 points in the four-ball better-ball Stableford.

They won by one point from Iain Cash and Jordan Taylor, who were second, on the card, from Steve Goodwin and Eric Blanche.

Fourth were Colin and Brian Haywood (42), on countback from Jeff Howarth and Andy Coles.

In the President’s Prize, Anderson-Wild holds a commanding five-shot lead going into Sunday’s second and final round of the 36-hole major after returning a score of 70-7-63.

Ken Mills (74-6-68) is second, followed by Nick Sunderland (81-12-69).

Ian Richardson was in major mode, capturing the James Waterhouse Memorial Trophy at WERNETH with a round of 74-11-63.

Runner-up was Gary Seville (74-10-64), on the card from Tom McNamara and Peter Davies.

The Albert Warren Memorial Trophy at OLDHAM produced a win for Ian Radcliffe with 67-5-62.

Runner-up was Peter Sparks (76-13-63), on the card from Tony Weatherhead (79-16-63).

Radcliffe was also successful the previous day as he and Lee Blainey combined to triumph in a two-man Texas scramble with a score of 56.25.

They won a card play-off with Peter Carruthers and Ian Gemmell, and Lee Newsome and Paul Rainford.

Chris Calow heads the field after the first round of the President’s Prize at CROMPTON AND ROYTON.

He had a return of 74-11-63 to edge out Tony Sutherland (74-11-63) on the card.

Calow and Sutherland hold a three-shot lead over nearest pursuers Peter Boggiano (74-8-66), Andy Allan (70-4-66) and Jim Keogh (77-11-66).

Andy Hopkinson jnr (72-9-63) romped to victory in the first division of a medal. Second was Phil Spence (82-14-68), ahead of James Frizzell (74-5-69).

Ray Griffiths (82-17-65) was the clear winner of the second division.

Alan Pickles (83-15-68) finished second, on the card, ahead of Peter Wright (83-15-68) and Terry Gott (83-15-68).

Matthew Hampson won a five-way card play-off to land the Wainwright Cup at BROOKDALE after he shot a round of 70-5-65.

Runner-up was Brad Keeling (74-9-65), third place went to Jim Ashelby (72-7-65), fourth was Mike Issacs (86-21-65) and fifth was Barry Hayes (74-9-65).

Remarkably, Hayes had nine threes on his card and would have won comfortably had he not scored a nine on the 15th.

Mark Marrow and Doug Jones won the men’s open, scoring 45 points in the Stableford which teed off Festival Week.

Tom Barlow and George Allen (42) were second, while third place went to Chris Boyle and Colin Renwick (41).

Former Brookdale member David Priest (Settle) and Dave Bailey (Oldham) were the runaway winners of the seniors open.

They scored 46 Stableford points, five clear of their nearest challengers.

Top spot in the four-man team event went to Neil Laurent, Gary Winston, R Baker and K Mutch with 92 points.

Val and Albert Brogan triumphed in the mixed open with 46 points. Next came Roger Allen and Sue Neilson (45), and Diane Williams and Peter McQuilliam.

Captain’s prize at STAMFORD saw Andy Earlam take the honours, on the card from Tony Hales, with a two-round total of nett 136. Third was Joe Morrell (137).

Earlam had rounds of 78-6-72 and 706-64, Hales recorded 85-16-69 and 83-16-67 and Morrell’s returns were 86-20-66 and 91-20-71.

The best nett score in round one was 85-19-66 from Lee Gladrey, while in the second the honours went to Eric Nield (84-19-65).

Carl Varey’s 75 was the best gross score for the opening round, while in the second Earlam returned 70.

An 18-hole subsidiary held in conjunction with the club championship at BLACKLEY was won by Chris Bloomfield with a score of 79-14-65.

Second was Frank Hauxwell (90-22-68), on the card from John Hibbert (80-12-68).

Scott Salway (78-10-68) headed the field in a medal competition from. Michael Armstrong (88-17-71) was second, on the card, from Chris Benton (78-7-71).
