Bowlers mourn

THE local bowling scene is mourning the loss of two of its well-known players.
Graham O’Neill died on Sunday at the age of 37 following a lengthy illness. His clubs included Moorside, Springhead, Peels Arms and Wrigley Mill.
Mike Ray, who represented Manor Park, Delph and North Chadderton, also passed away on Sunday at the age of 67.
NIMBLE Nook will take on Hopwood in the final of the Greater Manchester Association’s Premier Cup at Springhead on Thursday night (6.45).
THE Oldham Veterans’ League’s Clayton Cup final between Norden and Springhead ‘A’, which was due to be held at Moorside last Friday, will now be played, weather permitting, at the same venue on Thursday (1.30pm).
FAILSWORTH’S Alan Bidwell was beaten 21-16 by Michael Clough (Wardle) in the second round of the Your Choice Windows men’s singles at Norden BC.
Nimble Nook’s Colin Lane is among the 16 players in action next Sunday (6pm). He plays Mike Mitchell (Bamford) and victory could set up a second-round match against reigning Chronicle champion Peter Craig.
