THE Oldham men’s darts team opened their Lancashire ‘Super Eights’ campaign with an impressive 7-3 home victory against Eccleston.
The ‘Super Eights’ have replaced the Lancashire GMC Super League’s premier division of which Oldham are the reigning champions.
Oldham’s wins were achieved by Gary Jackson (4-2, 66.54), Ian Walters (4-0, 80.10), Dave Kenway (4-3, 71.29), Stuart Holden (4-2, 86.93), John Moreton (4-1, 73.11), Terry Hey (4-2, 71.19) and Lee Williams (4–0, 72.32).
Debut-making Lee Holden had a remarkable average of 90.89 every three darts and still lost.
Lee’s average would have won any other game but he had the misfortune of confronting Lancashire ‘A’ player Eddie Dootson who triumphed 4-2 averaging 92.95.
Oldham’s next game is at home to Little Hulton on Sunday, September 20.
OLDHAM women, depleted through holidays, were beaten 5-3 at home by Blackpool in their opening match in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.
The Oldham winners were Joan Hicken (3-1), Tracey Hindle (3-0) and Shereen Downs (3-1).
Oldham’s next match is at home to Milnrow on Sunday, September 20.
