WATERHEAD under-17s side started the season with a 32-10 loss at West Bank Bears. Scorers in the defeat were Jordan Curtis and captain Anthony Mellor, Luc Kinder adding one conversion.
A THRILLING 20-20 draw against Ince Rose Bridge got Higginshaw under-15s’ season off to a solid start.
Bradley Turner drew first blood for Higgy and Josh Queenan also crossed in the first half, but Ince pulled it back on both occasions for a 10-10 half-time scoreline.
Eagles opened up a 10-point lead in the second half thanks to tries from Ryan Standring and man-of-the-match Elliot White, Standring also kicking two conversions.
But a series of handling errors and penalties allowed Ince a way back, scoring two tries of their own to level the scores.
OLDHAM St Anne’s under-11s got their season off to a flyer with a winning start at Westhoughton.
Haider Khan, boy-of-the-match Oliver Depetrillo, Joshua Fish, James Barran, top tackler Thomas Armstrong, Regan Croft (two) and Jamie Ashton all touched down in an emphatic victory.
Saints under-nines also did well in their opener before going down to a six tries to four defeat at West Bank Bears.
Asa France scored the game’s first for St Anne’s before the home side hit back to lead three tries to one as the teams changed ends.
Alfie Baldwin, Samuel Jewitt and Max Flanagan all touched down for the narrowly defeated visitors in the second half.
A TOP performance brought Waterhead’s under-11s a 42-6 derby victory over Saddleworth Rangers.
Harry Madders grabbed a pair of tries to add to efforts from Joe Hibbert, Liam Aspin, Joe Rathmill, Ben Mort and Nathan Beech-Farrow.
Great Scott inspires Rangers
SCOTT Booth was the star of the show as Saddleworth Rangers under-15s won 42-30 at Orrell St James.
Booth scored a first-half hat-trick in a man-of-the-match performance.
Ben White notched Rangers’ fourth try for a 22-10 half-time lead and that tally was added to by White, Ryan Maneely (two) and Lewis Galbraith after the interval. White ended with six goals.
Newly-promoted Rangers under-14s opened up with a 36-4 win at West Bank Bears.
Jed Mawdsley and Joseph Harrison-Brown both claimed hat-tricks while Dominic D’Adamo also crossed the line.
Rangers under-12s also showed up impressively, winning 34-4 at home to Milnrow Cobras.
Ali Hussain, man-of-the-match Josh Hall (two), Harry Aaronson, Tom Jowle and Sam Ireland all scored before the visitors came up with a consolation.

TWO former Waterhead youngsters picked up junior academy awards at Salford.
Marc Sneyd, an 18-year-old, who signed professionally at The Willows three years ago, was player of the year and Gareth Owen, who signed a season later, gained the players’ player of the year award.
