DESPITE speculation surrounding a move to the Lake Garage CLL, Roelof Hugo has pledged his future to Heyside.
The South African wicketkeeper/batsman has penned a deal for 2010.
Club chairman Joe Warburton said: “Roelof was linked to Werneth, but we’re delighted to announce he is staying for another season.
“He is a quality player — I haven’t seen a better wicketkeeper — and has great experience.
“He also has an indepth knowledge of the game, which he will hopefully pass on to the other players at the club.
“We’re currently discussing his role at Heyside next year. His experience is invaluable to us and we want to use it in the best way possible to take the club forward.”
Johannesburg-born Hugo (26) has become a firm favourite at Heyside.
Now in his third season at Little Hey Street, he topped the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s professional batting averages in 2007 and 2008.
Hugo scored 1,138 runs at 81.3 in his first year and followed up by amassing 1,165 runs at 97.1 12 months later.
With just two games to go, it is unlikely he will reach four figures this time, but he can still boast an average of 83.5 (752 runs).
