Honours even at Broadway

CHADDERTON held high-flying Daisy Hill to a goalless draw at Broadway in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.
The mid-table Broadway side had worked all week in training at ways of nullifying the threat second-placed Hill would pose.
It worked a treat as Hill were restricted to a couple of openings in a match of few chances.
The closest the visitors came to a goal was a cross-cum-shot which struck the crossbar.
Chadderton’s best chance fell to Paul Socha who blazed over when clean through on goal.
Injuries to Keith Melvin and Dave Glynn disrupted Chadderton’s game plan as it restricted the substitutes they were able to use.
Coach Steve Patterson explained that the game plan had been to contain Hill for an hour and then have a go in the final third, though the injuries put paid to that.
Chadderton reserves lost 3-0 at AFC Liverpool.
MOSSLEY gave a much-improved display in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Leigh Genesis in UniBond League, first division north.
The Lilywhites took the lead after 34 minutes when Jonathan Smith, a former Mossley player, conceded a penalty following a clumsy challenge and Matty Kay scored from the spot.
Leigh equalised early in the second half when Andy Heald outjumped keeper Peter Collinge to head home a cross.
Jordan Stephen had a couple of openings which could have won the match for Leigh, though by the same token Steve Settle, a former Leigh player, came close to snatching victory for Mossley.
OLDHAM TOWN had no first-team match.
