Penalty pain

CHADDERTONIANS had to settle for a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Little Lever in the Lancashire Amateur League premier division after they conceded an injury-time penalty.
The hosts had the better of the first half — they missed a spot-kick — but Chadds improved after the break and went ahead courtesy of Antony Corlett’s superb 30-yard drive.
The visitors seemed set for maximum points, only for Little Lever to be awarded a second penalty, and this time they made no mistake.
Chadds reserves continued their good form in division two with a 3-1 win over Rochdale St Clements — Damian Green, Damian Hardman and Warren Griffith got the goals — but the thirds lost 4-0 at Radcliffe Town reserves in division four.
Chadds’ fourth team swept aside Hesketh ‘B’ 7-3 in division six. Ryan Baldwin bagged four of the goals, with Mike Duxbury, Mark Flint and Jordan O’Dea getting the others.
ALL games involving Oldham Hulmeians were postponed at the weekend as a mark of respect to Rob Wood, a former player who died suddenly at the age of 46.
The striker, who is the club’s record goalscorer, played for Hulmeians over a 30-year period and he appeared as recently as at the end of the 2008-9 season.
