Trophy romp for Radclyffe
Date published: 17 September 2009
RADCLYFFE celebrated Phoenix Trophy glory in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance.
The bowlers did the damage as they restricted Newtonhurst to just 97 in the final at Royton Cricket Club.
They then held their nerve with the bat on a slow wicket — man-of-the-match R White (40) and S Wright (17) put on 56 — to record a six wicket-win.
I Johnson (two for five), S Wright (two for 17), R Steele (two for 19) and M Chambers (two for 26) starred with the ball for Radclyffe, while only Newtonhurst pair N Courtney (21 not out) and K Buckley (21) could get to grips with the conditions.
Despite V Clark’s feat of four wickets in as many balls, Greengate were beaten by Friends in the rearranged Charlie Scoltock Shield final at The Lancaster Club.
Clark’s effort in the last over limited Friends to 177 for nine.
Rashid hit 63, Amin made 53 and Mosan compiled 25, while A Simpson took two for 23.
Simpson struck 26 in reply and, although M Ball (29 not out) and C Ball (23) added 43 for the ninth wicket, Greengate were restricted to 139 for nine.
Nadeem claimed three for 19, and there were two wickets apiece for Amin and Mosan.
Foresters were too good for St Mary’s HC in the final of the Plate competition.
Scores of 36 from S Jolley and 24 from N Slater lifted Saints to 131 for nine. Kazi and I Bailey took four for 21 and I Bailey three for 15 respectively, while S Steele’s excellent 67 ensured their were few alarms for Foresters.
