Chadderton forced to change for vase replay

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MANAGER Paul Buckley will have to rejig his Chadderton side for tomorrow night’s FA Vase second-qualifying round replay at Padiham.

Chris Pauley and Danny Shaw are doubts after picking up knocks in Saturday’s first game which ended 2–2 after extra time as the 10-man Vodkat NWCL first division side Chadderton were unlucky not to beat premier division Padiham.

Buckley will also be without Dave Glynn and Donovan Greenidge, who are working, while Louis Maynard may also be missing for similar reasons.

But on a positive note, central defender and influential captain Mark Egerton and Ian Hulme return after being absent on Saturday.

Buckley is delighted with the way his young team is playing after extended their unbeaten run to five matches in league and cup.

He said: “We played really well against Padiham, a team from a higher division, and should have won despite having only 10 men for almost one-and-a-half hours.

“The players were down after the game and disappointed not to have won, but they should have been proud how they played.

“We are unbeaten in five games and most of the victories have been against top sides which is encouraging to know we can compete with the best teams.”

Chadderton’s reward for beating Padiham will be a home tie against either Maltby Main or Hemsworth Miners Welfare in the first-round proper on Saturday, October 3.

n OLDHAM TOWN, who won at AFC Blackpool in the FA Vase on Saturday, have landed Winsford United in the first-round.

First division Town will be aiming to cause an upset as United are a premier club in the Vodkat NWCL.

n MOSSLEY can forget the league tonight as they play hosts to Radcliffe Borough in the first round of the UniBond League Challenge Cup.

The Lilywhites won at Garforth Town on the opening day of the season, but have since failed to post a victory in nine matches in league and cup.
