Wait goes on as Vics crash
DEPLETED Oldham Victoria are still looking for their first win of the season in division two of the Lancashire and Cheshire League.

They went down 3-0 at new-boys Standians, with centre-half Tony Varley wearing the goalkeper’s jersey because of a long-term injury to John Wildbore.

And goals by Chris Hadfield, Adam McKinney and Reece Mills were in vain as Santos AFC were beaten 4-3 at home by Norris Villa.

But AFC Oldham 2005 swept aside Eagle FC 4-1 to stay in touch with early division one pacesetters Newton.

Victoria’s second string made it third time in lucky in division ‘C’, defeating Droylsden Amateurs 3-2 at Broadhurst Park.

It was Vics’ first win of the campaign, and they got a great start when Tremain Blair rifled home a rebound off the ’keeper after seven minutes.

Captain Jimmy Humphreys doubled the advantage to put Vics in the driving seat, before Droylsden pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

Ashley Prince restored Vics’ two-goal lead in the 75th minute, but Droylsden cut the deficit once again to set up a nervous finale.

Dominic Siddall struck five times for Santos reserves in an emphatic 12-3 drubbing of Denton West End reserves.

Alan Cass weighed in with a hat-trick, Chris Sarsfield got two and there was one apiece for Steven Cass and Michael Kelly.

In division ‘D’, AFC Oldham 2005 reserves lost 2-1 at home to Govan Athletic.
