ANGLING: THERE was a terrific battle in the Medlock Bridge AC Open on the Park Lake.

Pete Cuniffe and Billy Brierley were trading fish-for-fish in the second half of the contest, before the former eventually emerged victorious from peg 30 near the café.

He helped himself to plenty of chub, the odd roach and a few perch on the pole and caster for 13lb 2oz.

Brierley struggled for the first part of the match, before a change of tactics reaped reward.

He switched his line of attack towards the footbridge, where he caught plenty of chub on bronze maggot for 12lb 13oz.

Organiser Darren Webb (Medlock Bridge AC) was third.

He bagged the odd chub, small tench and perch, before a change to chopped worm tempted a good roach and chub of around the one pound mark for 6lb 5oz.

LENNIE FOSDYKE landed the JR Open on the scrapyard length of the Ashton Canal.

He weighed in a 4lb 12oz catch, which included skimmers on a variety of baits.

Eon Wilson, in second place, caught plenty of small roach, using bread punch down the track and across for 3lb 12oz.

He edged out Ken Power’s mixed net on the pole and squatt.

EON Wilson went one better in the charity match on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, Mossley.

He netted 4lb 13oz of small skimmers and roach on bread punch hookbait.

THE SADAS members match on Eagle Mill Dam was won by Fenton Tennant, with caster and pellet over a groundbait approach tempting 5lb 5oz of skimmers.

Co runners-up with 4lb 8oz apiece and almost identical catches to the winner were Steve Walsh, Lee Denton and Brian Murphy.

SADAS members should note that guest passes are no longer available from Jim Stamford in Greenfield.

Anyone requiring a guest pass must go to Dave Castle. He can be contacted on (0161) 626 0160 or 07505 356870.
