Mossley back on the right track

MOSSLEY eased their troubles with a 3-0 win at Harrogate Railway Athletic in UniBond League first division north.

It was the first league victory for the Lilywhites since the opening day of the season, a sequence of eight winless matches.

Mossley played Railway off the tracks, though it took them almost an hour to make the breakthrough when Karl Brown’s quick free kick caught home keeper James Mann on the wrong post.

Mossley doubled their lead after 76 minutes when Brown’s cross was sliced into his own goal by Railway defender Danny Verity.

And that was quickly followed by a third goal when Brown’s free kick was headed home by Matty Kay for his sixth goal of the season.

CHADDERTON held high-flying Irlam to a goalless draw at Broadway in an ill-tempered match in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

It was a game which ended with Chadderton having nine men and Irlam 10, local players Gareth Morris and Ben Greenidge both sent off for retaliation.

Manager Paul Buckley was pleased with the draw as his team played almost half an hour two players down.

Morris and Chris Pauley had good chances for Chadderton in the opening half, though keeper Lee Swanson made two great saves and Danny Shaw cleared another effort off the goalline.

Morris and Danny Bell had further chances for Chadderton after the restart before the spate of dismissals began.

Late in the game Ian Hulme had a chance which could have seen Chadderton snatch victory.

Chadderton lost 4-0 at Ashton Town in the reserve division.

OLDHAM TOWN were undone by two late goals as they lost 2-0 at AFC Liverpool in the first division of the Vodkat NWCL.

Town more than matched Liverpool in the opening period when they were unlucky not to take the lead. James Curley headed against the crossbar while Nick Alexandra twice went close.

Arnold Nsimbe had two chances to put Town ahead after the restart, but it was Liverpool who made the breakthrough after 70 minutes when Todd Bamber found the net with a neat shot on the turn and he added a second on the break in the dying moments.
