Blackley in final surge

BLACKLEY won through to the final of the Manchester Alliance Foursomes in style by whitewashing Hazel Grove 7-0.

It is the first time Blackley have ever entered the competition and in the final they will play either Dukinfield or Pleasington.

The successful pairings for Blackley were Brian Johnson and Chris Thompson (4 & 3), John McDonald and Phil Marcroft (3 & 2), Alan Lane and Duncan Teal (2 & 1), Gareth Morris and Andy O’Neill (1 up), Steve Newton and John Hibbert (2 & 1), Ali White and Billy Radcliffe (3 & 2), Julian Robinson and Ian Harrop (4 & 3).

Steve Kelly (80-13-67) won the first round of the Autumn Cup from Dave Bausor (78-10-68), Julian Robinson (68-0-68) and David Brown (90-22-68). And in the second round, Kevin Churchhouse (89-24-65) emerged the victor from John McDonald (77-11-66), Steve Hodson (86-19-67) and Billy Radcliffe (78-11-67).

The Blackley Trophy, for the best five best nett scores over the season went to Robinson (345) from Bauser (348) and Bob Anderson (359).

Ken Mills is the leader at the half-way stage of the Mountain Ash, SADDLEWORTH’S final major of the season. He heads the field with a score 73-6-67 after winning the opening 18 holes on the card from Andy Long (74-7-67). Martin Orme (70-2-68) lies in third place.

CROMPTON and Royton’s final-day medal was won by Colin Hopkinson (84-20-64) from Andy Allen (70-4-66) and Alan Whetham (84-17-67). Qualification was for those who had carded a score of nett 70 or under during the season.

A subsidiary for other players saw Malcolm Burton (83-18-65) emerge the clear winner from second-placed Andy Clarke (72-3-69).

Paul Rowbotham and Stephanie Banks beat Ken Baker and Christine Moon (5 & 4) in the final of the The Mixed, WERNETH’S matchplay knockout.

Adam Rowbotham, Terry Walsh and Clint Shaw triumphed in a Texas scramble with a score of 56-3.1-52.9. Runners up were Paul and Lee Rowbotham and Baker whose return was 57-3.6-53.4.

Ian Wooliscroft and Lee Newsome won a four-ball betterball medal at OLDHAM with a score of 55, the same as runners-up Jack Roberts and Frank Lawrence.

Paul Pattinson scored 43 points to claim top spot in the first division of a Stableford from Eric Charles (41) and Newsome (39). Mick Jones (40pts) landed the honours in the second division on the card from Andy Dowd. Third was Sam Gilbey (38).

A four-ball betterball Stableford at STAMFORD was won by Mick Toms and Dave Pegg with 47 points. Second were Chris Deacon and Ron Hardy (46) on the card from Pete Hankey and Mark Devlin.
